This is a spirit horse, a very handsome fellow at that. As has happened in the past with painting these, I start out with a detailed sketch and as I begin to paint... I hear a little voice in my head telling me how to change it to its liking LOL. I love that they speak to me!
I like to paint the eyes first which seems to give them life immediately. The painted symbols are very symbolic and specific. The hands are for protection, unless it is black and then it would mean it is the symbol of vengeance. the circle around the eye or nose is to heighten their senses for danger. The little circles or dots are to wish hail upon the enemy. The lightning bolt on the hip or shoulder and down the legs represent speed. Also very interesting is what they make the different colored paints out of; we'll leave that for another time.
